Beginner Courses
Basic Weekend Course – £165 (see also Basic 5 Day Course)
The Basic Weekend assumes no previous knowledge and takes the individual right from scratch. If you have not put up a shelter before, lit a fire without using matches or a lighter, eaten from the wild, navigated using the sun or the stars, then this is the course for you!
The Basic course contents are as follows:
- fire lighting
- knife sharpening
- shelter construction
- water collection and purification
- hunting and trapping techniques
- plants for food and medicine
- primitive fishing methods
- improvised weapons for hunting
- essential survival gear (and how to use it properly)
- recommended wilderness gear
- wilderness health and hygiene
- distress signals
- outdoor safety
When learning the basics, it is important that you are shown how to do them properly. Everything is carefully explained and demonstrated. Instructors will then supervise you as you have a go yourself.
The weekend will fly by as you learn new skills that will be of real practical value. Most importantly of all, you will look at the great outdoors with a new found respect and understanding and an increased ability to cope with any challenges that may come your way.
You will be provided with a knife, two laminated guides produced by the British Mammal Society (British Mammals' Tracks and Signs and Key to British Land Mammals) and a Cambrian Survival Trip Plan, all of which is yours to take away at the end of the course.
