Intermediate 5 Day Course

See also: Intermediate Weekend Course

This course is designed to extend still further your skills and knowledge.

Following on from where the Basic 5 Day Course finished, it will continue to develop your ability to deal with the unexpected when far away from help.

The emphasis is firmly on expanding and deepening your knowledge of wilderness skills and survival techniques. At all times, it is focused on relevant and realistic skills.

Real life survival situations are examined in detail during the course and the appropriate lessons highlighted. We look at one incident in detail every day (covering every climate), so no matter where you are thinking of travelling to, we have a wealth of top tips to ensure a safer trip.

Every element of the course is demonstrated and explained prior to you having a go. As with our other courses, you will get to do everything that we teach. You will be carefully supervised at every stage to ensure you get the maximum benefit from your time with us. Assistance from our team of instructors will always be available, 24 hours a day.

The Intermediate 5 Day Course is an adventurous, challenging and intensely rewarding course. It will see you even further along the road to mastering the art of staying alive. You will finish the course not only with a much deeper understanding of the flora and fauna of the British Isles but also with a greatly increased ability to utilise the natural resources around you, a much deeper understanding of the realities of a survival situation and, above all, an increased confidence in your ability to deal with whatever may come your way.

The skills and techniques developed on this course include:

  • Different river crossing techniques (where actually getting in the water is not an option)
  • Transporting fire
  • Signalling (see below)
  • Improvisation - how to get the most out of everything
  • Finding less obvious sources of food
  • Fresh water from sea water
  • The primitive kitchen

Notes

After refresher training, it is all practical signalling. You will get a chance to see exactly how far your signal techniques will go.

Students should be able to swim. At all times, your safety is our number one concern and a comprehensive safety crew will be used for the river crossing.
